"Terracotta Panathenaic prize amphora"
Anfora panatenaica datata ca. 530 a.C., attribuita al Pittore Euphiletos.
Raffigura da un lato Atena in armi tra due colonne che sorreggono due galli. La dea è raffigurata con scudo, lancia ed elmo. Dall’altro lato viene raffigurata la gara podistica tra cinque giovani. Il Pittore di Euphiletos usa la tecnica a figure nere. E’ interessante confrontare la ferma, deliberata incisione nelle sue opere con la linea più libera di artisti come il Pittore di Berlino. La corsa podistica è uno dei primi eventi conosciuti nei giochi panatenaici.
Vicino ad Atena vi è un’iscrizioni in greco che cita: τον Αθενεθεν αθλον.

Trovata nel marzo 1829; fa parte della collezione di Luciano Bonaparte, primo Principe di Canino; fino al 1914, che entra nella collezione di Edward J. Jekyll; nello stesso 1914 viene acquisita da Edward Perry Warren attraverso Christie, Manson, e Woods (vendita di E.J. Jekyll); acquistata da E.P. Warren nel 1914 stesso dal MET.
